Cities are crowded, sick of standing in line Dunno where I’m going just what I’m leavin behind Build me a road something I can use Just need a servo for fuel and fast food There’s a rumour going round I don’t believe The towns and streets will be obsolete The towns and streets will be obsolete I don’t care I got all I need CHORUS Another freeway forever I drive Who needs a landmark or a sign Lost in bridges tunnels and tracks Bridges and tunnels lead me back Don’t care where it leads I just love the road Numbers and letters try to crack the code Navigate by satellite, call the helpline Don’t wanna real person, ain’t got the time The recorded voice sounds so sexy to me Why did I ring, now let me see Why did I ring, now let me see I don’t care I got all I need An exit sign for old time’s sake Can’t decide which one to take Haven’t been home but what’s the crime? Couldn’t find my way back even if I tried There’s a rumour going round I don’t believe Towns and streets are obsolete Towns and streets are obsolete I don’t care I got all I need

Work and eat, R n R together, we met on the same roster The only escape when we split up was going back to my quarters Just like solitary confinement, think about debt it’s daunting Whether it’s Earth or outer space, it’s coming back to haunt you CHORUS 3 weeks out of every 5 Come back to work, haunt the site Dead bodies on the Moon are bad for morale Since space tourism’s taken off, Moon travel’s pretty cheap 3 weeks then a fortnight off, it’s an 84 hour week 29 days for the sun to move across a lunar sky Everyone still sets their clocks Pacific Standard Time CHORUS Our mining site’s on the side of the Moon, facing away from Earth Anyone known with suicidal thoughts stops being offered work I know they pay families off to keep their reputation Floated out with no oxygen tank like my debt will be erased CHORUS Bridge For all the FIFO’s little white lies Take me back to Earth keep it quiet Dead bodies on the Moon are bad for morale
7.
Polynesians come in canoes to settle one of their rows Victors take a prisoner, prepare him to be devoured On the matter of cannibals, we have a lesson to teach We slaughter natives as is fit, but never stoop to eat one CHORUS Evil is a long way from home If you’re prepared to travel that far Evil is a long way from home By God we must take charge Stranded on an island, without a cup of tea to pour Polite conversation, enshrined into law Rule over nature with a plough build God a new nation Recreate England for the sake of civilisation CHORUS The chief’s daughter wants to be converted, I have a missionary urge Spread the Lord’s word besides she lusts for me I am certain God provides power and riches, burn your idols to the ground You will join the Empire too when I grant you a little power
8.
Sent as cheap labour out into space We started to breed and they forced us to stay The mega-rich have the same DNA We’re all from Earth only some will remain CHORUS Aliens they call us but we came from Earth We came from Earth and we will return We tried peaceful tactics if Humans could learn Alien evolved from Planet Earth Fluid all goes to your torso and head Muscles relax, less blood in the legs 3 months in space if you ever get back It’s a year to recover your bone muscle mass G-Force zero brain process impaired Co-ordination boosted instead Intelligence wains, happier breed Recruiting our athletes to play in your teams CHORUS Finally we moved out to Kepler 10C 17 times Earth’s gravity Shorter but stronger evolving robust Cognitive process beyond human grasp Fight amongst themselves, just watching their wars Humanity’s just a dwindling force Let them think they’re retaining the power The Earth will survive just watch them die out CHORUS

about

We started as humans but have evolved. You might call us Techno-Aliens. Our ancestors were sent as FIFO workers to the moon, then the Asteroid Belt and finally on very long-term contracts into deep space. We knew we were being exploited but most of us had little alternative.

Very quickly however the sought after resources ran out and the Mining Companies moved further afield and left us behind. Centuries turned to millennia and by the time history had forgotten us we’d transformed through a combination of natural selection and technological advances to a new intelligence.

Contained in this artefact is our message to you from a distant future from deep outer-space.
